Caroline Goldsmith: Publishing Consultant

Everything you need to publish

About me

B&WHello. I’m Caroline and I know books. I am dedicated to providing a personal, professional and friendly service to writers and publishers. I have helped clients shape their manuscripts; submit to agents and publish paperbacks and eBooks independently. I have  designed book covers; sourced printers; run social media accounts; created content for author websites; designed logos; created marketing material and merchandise and I’ve even written some books for publishers myself.

I have eighteen years of experience in trade publishing. After studying literature at the University of East Anglia, my publishing career began at independent publisher, Aurum Press back in 2000. My next step was into the world of  International art publishing with the Tate Galleries, and then to a period in International Sales with Dorling Kindersley/ The Penguin Group. Having experience in both small publishers and large corporations meant that I gained knowledge in all areas of publishing from commissioning decisions to production to marketing to sales and rights.

In 2012, I co-founded and ran, independent publisher, Red Button Publishing with an old colleague to publish fiction overlooked by the mainstream. For four years we published original fiction in both paperback and digital formats entirely by ourselves, using our own funding. Having worked for one of the biggest trade publishers, this was a real learning experience for me and I came to really understand the challenges faced by authors who decide to publish themselves. When we reluctantly closed our doors in 2016, I helped our authors to publish their works independently  so the titles are all still available in both paperback and ebook formats.

I now spend my days providing services for writers and publishers from my home in the Suffolk countryside. When I’m not doing that I can usually be found with my head in a  book or trying to write that novel I’ve been sitting on for two decades.
